The earth rotates around itself with a velocity of over 1000 km per hour - faster then a passenger aircraft. The reason this does not affect us is because everything around us moves at the exact same speed we do and by that appears to us as static. Movement can only be described by the relation from one object to another (or to a fixed point in space) - as such velocity remains relative.
When we not only slow down but stand still to watch the night sky we connect to the universe that surrounds us. The ground below our feet is moving in a circle around the center of the earth, the earth is moving around our sun, our sun around the center of our galaxy and so on. Yet from our point of view looking  at the universe: the stars seem almost unchanging. Asking us to slow down and embrace the infinite movement of the universe – both at the same time.
“Slowing Down” is the essential component of this series: the photos are taken with the iPhone's 3-second exposure, making the stars in the night sky visible that were previously invisible to the human eye. In order for the exposure and the algorithm to work, the iPhone asks us to slow down and hold still.
