tilia (lat.) linden tree
tapetae (lat.) wall hanging, carpet used as a drapery
At the beginning of the 20th century, the newly suburbanised Lindenau was a prosperous industrial area - among the various new factories was the wallpaper factory R. Langhammer. The name of the district still reflects the material from which the first rolls of wallpaper were made here: Linden wood.
In Tilia tapetae, the historical and modern characteristics of this place grow together again in one sculpture. The botanical linden tree, the old wallpaper patterns produced here and creative elements of today's use all influenced the artistic process as well as specific features of the sculpture's design.
