PATTERNED INSIDES
PAINTINGS by Mihr Shahnazaryan; SUSI – VIDEO PROJECT by Nina Behnisch, Omani Frei, Tini Bot, CURATION by Marvin Neidhardt; Aren Shahnazaryan
The exhibition patterned insides at the Hole of Fame shows paintings and drawings by Mihr Shahnazaryan together with the video installation SUSI, a joint project by Nina Behnisch, Omani Frei and Tini Bot.
Here, two artistic positions come together that tackle visual representations of human inner life from two very different starting points, but come surprisingly close in the result. A series of oil paintings and digital drawings by Mihr Shahnazaryan offers insights into a series of landscape-like scenes modelled on motifs from the artist's dreams and pieces by J.S. Bach. Between their jumbled colours and contours, orientation recedes into the background in favour of forms of inner regularities - and occasionally the outline of a kind of solitary stroller becomes discernible.
The video work ‘SUSI’, on the other hand, was created around the eponymous song by Dresden artist Tini Bot. The protagonist is representative of people without shelter who define themselves through hope, love and dreams despite the often hopeless fight against addiction. In the video work, the musical piece is depicted as the dance of a human silhouette moving within an invisible, confined space defined by geometric symbols and patterns.
In the Hole of Fame, Shahnazaryan's ‘walkers’ move from the shop window into the semi-dark interior at the back of the exhibition space. There, in addition to SUSI, two projectors also show individual visual components of the video. Those who wish to do so can make themselves comfortable on the couch with headphones and allow themselves to discover the components that make up the appearance of SUSI's inner life.
